A Commemoration of Jackie Robinson & Al Lonstein.

I had the opportunity to paint a double-sided historical piece commemorating both the legacy of Jackie Robinson, and Al Lonstein, the grandfather of a good family friend.

Faintly pictured in the background, stands Jackie Robinson partaking in his final interview with Al Lonstein at the Granit Hotel in Kerhonkson, NY.

Just 34 days before Jackie’s passing in 1972.

This final interview conducted by Al Lonstein - a white, Jewish man. Standing with Jackie - an African American man. Goes to show that baseball is more than just a sport, but, “...a vehicle to achieve a more complete union in this country.” -Al Lonstein

The original photo of Jackie referenced in the forefront was originally taken and titled, “Greatness,” by Mark Rucker in 1948.

I felt it represents what Jackie withstood and fought for, forever unwavering and statuesque.

Along the frame in repetition, are the six original Jackie Robinson comic book covers that spanned between 1938-1955.
